When Life Feels Like It’s Falling Apart

Have you ever felt like your life was completely falling apart? Like no matter how hard you try, things just aren’t working out the way you hoped? Maybe you’ve faced a sudden job loss, a devastating breakup, or a major setback that made you question everything. If you’ve ever been in that place, you’re not alone.

The truth is, life doesn’t always make sense. But here’s the good news: God’s plan is bigger than anything we can imagine. Even when we can’t see it, He is working behind the scenes, orchestrating events for our good and His glory.

Why We Struggle to Trust God’s Plan

Before we talk about how to trust God, let’s first acknowledge why it’s so hard. Here are a few common reasons:

  • We Want Control – As humans, we crave certainty. We like to know what’s coming next. But faith requires us to surrender that control and trust God’s guidance, even when the path is unclear.

  • Fear of the Unknown – Not knowing the future can feel scary. We worry about making the wrong decisions or missing out on something better.

  • Pain and Disappointment – When we experience deep pain, it can feel like God has abandoned us. It’s easy to wonder, “If God loves me, why did He allow this to happen?”

  • Impatience – We live in a world that values instant results. But God’s timing is not our timing. Sometimes He asks us to wait, which can be difficult.

  • Comparisons – Seeing others succeed while we struggle can make us doubt God’s plan for our own lives. We wonder why He seems to bless others while we feel stuck.

Despite these struggles, the Bible reminds us over and over again that God’s plan is always better than our own.

Look At These Stories From the Bible That Prove God’s Plan is Bigger

Joseph: From Prison to Palace
One of the most powerful examples of God’s bigger plan is found in the life of Joseph.

Joseph was his father’s favorite son, but his jealous brothers sold him into slavery. He ended up in Egypt, falsely accused of a crime he didn’t commit, and thrown into prison. It seemed like his life was completely derailed. But God had a greater plan.

Years later, Joseph was elevated to second-in-command over Egypt. He was able to save an entire nation from famine—including the very brothers who had betrayed him! When they finally reunited, Joseph told them:

“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” (Genesis 50:20)

What seemed like a disaster was actually part of God’s perfect plan. If Joseph had never been sold into slavery, he wouldn’t have been in the right position to save countless lives. Sometimes, our setbacks are just setups for something greater.

Job: Finding God in Suffering

Job was a man who had everything—wealth, family, and health. But in a short period, he lost it all. His children died, his body was covered in painful sores, and his friends accused him of wrongdoing. Job couldn’t understand why God would allow such suffering.

But through his trials, Job learned that God’s plan was bigger than he could comprehend. In the end, God restored everything Job had lost—and even blessed him with more than before.

This story reminds us that even in our suffering, God is still in control. When we don’t understand, we can trust that He is working for our good.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example
The greatest example of God’s bigger plan is seen in Jesus.

When Jesus was crucified, it looked like a total defeat. His followers thought everything was over. But in reality, His death was the key to eternal life.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Even when things look hopeless, God is working in ways we cannot see.

How to Trust God’s Plan in Your Own Life
Now that we’ve seen how God has worked in the lives of others, let’s talk about how you can trust His plan in your own journey.

Pray for Surrender
Instead of asking God to bless your plans, ask Him to align your heart with His plan. Pray for peace and trust in His direction.

Read His Promises
The Bible is filled with promises that remind us of God’s faithfulness. Here are a few to hold onto:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28)

Let Go of the Timeline
We often get frustrated when God doesn’t move on our schedule. But His timing is perfect. Trust that He knows what He’s doing, even when you have to wait.

Look Back on His Faithfulness
Think about times in your past when God came through for you. Remembering His past faithfulness will strengthen your trust in His future plans.

Surround Yourself with Faithful People
Having a strong faith community can help encourage you when you struggle to trust God. Find people who will pray for you and remind you of His promises.

If you’re struggling right now, wondering if God has forgotten you, take heart: His plan is still in motion. You may not see it now, but one day, you’ll look back and realize He was guiding you all along.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

So keep trusting, keep praying, and keep believing because God’s plan is always bigger.
